Release of Arcane Space Adventures 1.0.0

The game has been released!

I have released a game!

It is a Space traveling simulator, where the player "rocket jumps" or propels themself by means of fire balls. This game is largely inspired by Kerbal Space Program (KSP), where I have clocked in hundreds of hours. I have often wondered why there aren't more space simulators like this one on the market, given KSP's huge success.

KSP gave me much, and I wanted to give back. Elite Dangerous also has to be mentioned, as it's method of transferring between different coordinate systems inspired how I coded transfer from space to planets and back. I am fudging a lot, but I think it is fine. Naturally, Skyrim and the sense it instills meaning into pretty much everything a player does drove me to think about what I could do to instill into the player a sense of walking into a sacred space. I realise that I somewhat failed in doing that, since there is the stillness and calm of the shrines, and on the other hand there is the player character blasting through the whole holiness with balls of fire.

The oldest file that I created for this project is dated January 13th, so I completed this game in under half a year, in less than four months. This is in large thanks to the focused scope, but also much due to new technologies. ChatGPT and later GPT4 helped me weed out some of the most annoying bugs. Interestingly diffusion has both helped and been a hindrance to my progress. Another thing that really slowed me down was my attempts at parallelising some of the computations in the game. This turned out to be a dead end, as I later came to realise that Love2D doesn't support multi-core processing.

Naturally, all bug reports are welcome. Even if you can't be asked to play more than a minute your feedback is welcome.

I am excited to hear what people have to say!
